This Week's Marketing Tip:
Welcome to Monday Marketing
August 25, 2008
A lot of salons put in a lot of effort to get new customers in the door – and then they drop the ball. They don’t do enough to KEEP the customers once they come in.
We once spoke with a salon owner who boasted of bringing in 600 new customers one month. That sounds great, but really, how can you possible KEEP 600 new customers? When would you have time to service them all?
This month we’ll concentrate on slowly and purposefully increasing your client base by 5 or 10 new clients a week. That’s 260 – 520 new clients a year – think about how your business will grow at that pace, year after year . . .
Marketing Tip
Have you ever moved in to a new home and had the Welcome Wagon come pay a visit? They bring all sorts of goodies from area merchants who are hoping that the new resident will choose to do business at their establishment.
You can do the same with new clients to your salon.
How To
Create a VERY simple Welcome package for new clients. Be sure it is packed in a great gift-bag. If you don’t have your own custom bags, it’s easy to go to a party store – or even the local dollar store – and get wonderfully colorful bags. Also, try www.PaperMart.com if you don’t mind buying a large supply.
Some ideas on what to include in your gift bag:
Free samples (you can often get these from your vendors)
- A magnet with the salon details: name, phone, hours of
operation
- A brochure of services and prices
- A coupon for their next visit
- A pen or pencil with the salon name and phone number (try www.nationalpen.com)
Cost
This is a very inexpensive package. The main point is that the customer will leave taking something with them that reminds them of your salon. All together, you should not pay more than $4 or $5 for the items in the package. The value of the coupon – if you use one – is up to you.
